She Shreds has run girls’ skateboarding in Tasmania since 2014, across three tiers: free social sessions, a paid development squad, and an invitation-only high performance group. It is council and government backed, and it runs on volunteers.
The hard part is that the site has two readers who want opposite things. A funding body needs to see an organisation that is structured, accountable and worth backing. A twelve year old and her mum need to see somewhere they would feel fine turning up on a Sunday. Lean too far either way and you lose the other.
So the structure does the credibility work, three tiers with clear entry points, visible partners, obvious volunteer and partnership pathways, and the photography does the welcoming. This one was built at no cost as community outreach.
